The tradition of fireballing in Stonehaven dates back hundreds of years. In the run up to midnight, the 'fireball swingers' gather on Stonehaven high street, light their fireballs – which are like a tar-filled hanging basket on the end of a chain – and then begin a march down the street accompanied by a pipe band.
