This adults-only CS is ideal for quiet holidays. With five touring and five tent pitches, there are no queues for the heated washblock. The touring pitches are all hardstanding with 16A hook-up. Fish in the site's lake, walk or cycle along its forest paths. Within 100 yards are a beach, pub, and all the shopping and leisure facilities you need. Open to Camping and Caravanning Club members only.

2New Forest Caravan Club Centenary Site, Hampshire

This site was recently purchased by the Caravan Club, which has overhauled all 263 pitches. Electric hook-ups and water points are now available, as well as washblocks, a play area, and dog walk. The site was part of a World War II airfield.

3Thetford Forest Camping & Caravanning Club Site, Norfolk

Situated at the edge of the forest, this site is a relaxing place for all the family. There are miles of walking and cycle paths to explore, and you may spot wildlife in the forest. Serviced pitches are available, and the site provides a launderette and dishwashing sinks. A new washblock is due early in the season. A small fishing lake and a playground are also planned for this year.

When you are in this quiet, countryside setting, it is hard to believe the A30 is nearby. From here you can relax and enjoy views across Dartmoor National Park and Roadford Lake, or head out and explore the local area. All the pitches are large, and some are fully serviced. The site provides washrooms, disabled facilities and a launderette. There is also a recreation field, a shop and a new conservation area where you can watch wildlife. Dogs are not allowed on site.

5Bearsted Caravan Club Site, Kent

This will prove to be a superb base for exploring Kent. Historic Maidstone is nearby. It is located on the M20, making it useful for overnight stops en route to the Dover ferry port. Hardstanding pitches, a shop, disabled facilities and a launderette are all planned.

6Wood Farm Caravan Park, Dorset

This is in an ideal location for exploring the Jurassic Coast. A safe beach is an easy walk away and Lyme Regis is two miles away. Touring pitches are all hardstanding with hook-up, and some are fully serviced. Heated washrooms, disabled facilities, dishwashing sinks and a launderette are also provided. There is a pool, a recreation hall, a play area and a shop.

7Hereford Camping and Caravanning Club Site, Herefordshire

This recent addition to the club's network is in an idyllic location near Hereford and the River Wye. Recently renovated, it features hook-up on all pitches, new showers and a launderette. You can fish on site, and there are plans for a bike-hire service.

8Poolsbrook Country Park Caravan Club Site, Derbyshire

This is opening on the site of a disused colliery, but it has been transformed into Pools Brook Country Park, which has a visitor centre, a café and play area. Its energy-saving facilities include solar panels, heat-recovery ventilation systems and a wind turbine. Hardstanding pitches are available. The washrooms have family and disabled facilities, and a launderette. The site also has fishing lakes and is near walking and cycle paths.

9New Farm, Cheshire

This site is set in 50 acres of peaceful farmland, yet lively Chester is just 17 miles away. It offers B&B and touring accommodation. The 17 pitches are all hardstanding with 16A hook-up, water point and domestic drainage. Among the site's facilities are a washblock, a shop that sells basic groceries and a gas exchange. An on-site taxi service is available for visiting area towns and villages. Three fishing lakes are also due to be opened this year. From April, the site will be reserved for adults only on the first weekend of every month. Children and well-behaved pets are welcome to New Farm at all other times.
