Introduction
Despite the small size of the county of Somerset, it has plenty to offer its visitors. There are many varied
natural habitats, landscapes and seascapes to explore, and an
abundance of locally produced food and drink, including cider, brandy and cheese, to enjoy.
Nature lovers will find plenty to do as Somerset’s habitats support
a wealth of birds, animals and plants. The indigenous wildlife can be seen at closer quarters at bird reserves, falconries and working farms, while more exotic residents can be spotted at a wildlife park.
This guide will also introduce you to some of Somerset’s finest natural and man-made landmarks. There is the archaeological splendour of Wells Cathedral and the natural wonder of Glastonbury Tor to marvel at. Two of the county’s main attractions are its caves at Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole, where you will learn that you are not the first visitors to the area and certainly won’t be the last.
