Getting there
The M20 goes south east from the M25 and bisects Kent, which makes the county easy to reach. Plenty of major A roads link up with the M20
as it rolls towards Dover, so getting to key towns will pose no problem wherever you start out. However, some of the small roads, particularly
in the more rural areas, are not reliably signposted.
For this reason, it's a very good idea to arm yourself with an Ordnance Survey map, such as the Landranger 188. Even if your car has sat-nav, an OS map is likely to prove invaluable at some point.
Rainy days
Lousy weather is a great excuse to indulge in a good film, whether it's just for the two of you or for the whole family. There are Odeon cinemas in Tunbridge Wells (on Knights Way) and in Maidstone (Barker Road, tel 0871 224 4007 for both). Meanwhile, Ashford's Eureka Entertainment Centre is home to a Cineworld Multiplex Cinema (tel 01871 220 8000).
If you need to burn off excess energy, you can't beat an indoor swimming pool. One possibility is the Tonbridge Swimming Pool, at The Slade in Tonbridge (tel 01732 367 449), which is ideal for families. It offers a choice of pools and an on-site café.
