Get familiar with an area awash with history and water sports
If you ever travel along the two great north-south trunk routes of the M1 and the A1, you will be well acquainted with the place names of Northamptonshire, having seen them on road signs. But Northants is not an obvious holiday destination, so the chances are you won't be very familiar with the county itself.
Which is a pity. Northamptonshire has been called the 'County of Squires and Spires' and it certainly has more country houses and churches to the square mile than most places in Britain. But it has a lot more to offer besides.
For a start, it has oodles of outdoor activities that make good use of its open countryside, reservoirs and canals. It also boasts the large, attractive market town of Northampton, various
historic buildings and a mass of kids' activities. Add these together and you have a really special Great Escape that's off the beaten track.
