GREAT ESCAPES
Great escapes to Kent

Where beautiful scenes blend with history of the natural and human kind
Kent has long been known as the Garden of England, but it is far more than that. Apart from the county’s natural charm, the channel port of Dover and the tunnel terminal at Folkestone mean that it has special significance as the gateway to the Continent.
Over the centuries, Kent has been the country’s first line of defence in times of war. Even as recently as WWII, RAF airfields such as Manston were in the forefront of the Battle of Britain, while Dover and Ramsgate saw the return of over 330,000 survivors from Dunkirk.
Perhaps among the less well known facts about the county is that for over 500 years many of the ships that enabled the Royal Navy to rule the seven seas were built at Chatham Dockyards. And for 1500 years, Canterbury Cathedral has been the home of Christianity in Britain.
A few days spent in the northern part of the county provides a real feast of interesting attractions for families of all ages.
