Getting there
Whether you are approaching the Lake District from the north or the south, chances are that the M6 is likely to be the major route in. There are four major junctions that will take you into the National Park, but for the southern end, junction 36 is preferable, following the signs along the A590 toward Newby Bridge for the southern end of Lake Windermere, Barrow and Ulverston, while the A591 is better for the west of Kendal and Windermere town. Avoid towing at peak times if at all possible.
