GREAT ESCAPES
Seven great days out in Hereford & Worcester
At first glance, the counties of Herefordshire and Worcestershire seem to be in a time warp. Tiny villages and towns often reached by narrow, twisty lanes; traditional red public phone boxes; and in Malvern, streets still lit by gas-powered lights. It’s all as pretty as a picture.
But it’s the countryside that is the jewel in the crown. Fields and hills surround every town and village. The Malvern Hills in particular offer the visitor the chance of superb walking country, with stunning views reaching to the horizon. It’s little wonder Elgar found so much inspiration for his music here.
This region is not the most child-friendly, but for caravanners whose children have flown the nest and want to spend a few days where the pace of life allows you, in the words of Wordsworth, ‘to stand and stare’, then both counties have a great deal to offer.
