Getting there
Although you have to cross the water to get to Ireland, it really is
a trouble-free trip. We went from Holyhead to Dublin City Port with Irish Ferries. The best way to reach Holyhead is via the A55. It's not be the shortest route, but it is dual carriageway all the way, whereas the more direct and scenic A5 is a twisting single carriageway.
From Dublin's port to Wicklow, follow the signs to the East Link toll bridge; make sure you have a few euros in small change to cross it. Then head for the N11, which will take you into Wicklow.
Rainy days
The weather here is much as it is in the UK, but when the weather takes a turn for the worse, there is still plenty to do. For example,
it's easy to find a cinema. Bray has one in Quinsboro Road (tel 00
353 (0)1 28 68 686), Wicklow has the Abbey Cinema in Wentworth Place (tel 00 353 (0)4 04 68 280) and there's a Screen by the Sea in Victoria Road, Greystones (tel 00 353 (0)90287 1143; Website).
If you want to avoid the rain but still get wet, you'll find indoor swimming pools at New Arclow Sports Centre (tel 00 353 (0)4 02 23 328), the Corna Bay Club at Brittas Bay (tel 00 353 (0)4 04 47 228), Avonbrae in Rathdrum (tel 00 353 (0)4 04 46 198) and the Coral Leisure Centre and Pool in Wicklow (tel 00 353 (0)4 04 66 831).
